This trick works based on a hidden pattern of cards, and the audience will guess the cards one by one. You’ll reveal the cards using a clever counting mechanism based on the length of the card names. It’s simple to learn and very fun to perform!
The Setup: A Hidden Pattern of Cards
Before starting, you'll need to secretly set up a specific arrangement of cards. The suits can vary, but the sequence is essential.
For instance, you might use the following pattern: 3, 8, 7, A, K, 6, 4, 2, Q, J, 10, 9, 5.
You can use this exact sequence, or shuffle it for more variety. Just make sure to remember the order, as you’ll need to follow it throughout the game.
Card Names and Their Magic Number
In this trick, each card name has a "magic number" based on the number of letters in its name. You’ll use this number to count through the hidden card pattern.
Here’s a quick guide:
- Ace - 3 letters
- Two - 3 letters
- Three - 5 letters
- Four - 4 letters
- Five - 4 letters
- Six - 3 letters
- Seven - 5 letters
- Eight- 5 letters
- Nine - 4 letters
- Ten - 3 letters
- Gulam - 5 letters
- Queen - 5 letters
- King - 4 letters
(For this trick, we’ll use the word "Gulam" instead of "Jack" and count it as 5 letters.)
How to Play: Step-by-Step Instructions
Start by telling your audience that you have a hidden sequence of cards, which they will help you reveal through their guesses. They’ll call out the name of any card, and you’ll reveal that card using a mysterious counting process.
- First Card Guess
Let’s say the first participant guesses Ace.
You count the number of letters in "Ace" (which is 3), and then you count 3 positions in your hidden pattern:- 1st position: 3
- 2nd position: 8
- 3rd position: 7
The next card in the sequence is Ace, so you reveal it! The audience is already impressed.
- Continuing the Game
Now the next participant guesses Two.
"Two" has 3 letters, so you continue counting 3 positions starting from where the last card (Ace) was:- 1st position: K
- 2nd position: 6
- 3rd position: 4
You then reveal Two! The audience doesn’t know that you’re in control of the pattern.
- Next Guess: Three
Another participant guesses Three, which has 5 letters.
Starting from Two’s position, you count 5 spots in the pattern:- 1st position: Q
- 2nd position: J
- 3rd position: 10
- 4th position: 9
- 5th position: 5
And you reveal Three!
- Repeat Until All Cards Are Revealed
The game continues with each guess. For each card named, you count according to the number of letters in its name and unveil the matching card from the concealed pattern. With each correct guess, you eliminate the revealed card from the pattern, gradually reducing the pattern until all the cards are shown.
